Get to know the challenges!

Washington D.C., September 7th, 2016 - For the XII Edition of the Talent and Innovation Competition (TIC Americas), PepsiCo, CBC, Postobón and YABT conceived a new Eco-Challenge with three new themes focused on supporting the industry’s real needs. This year, young entrepreneurs are asked to come up with innovative, sustained and viable business solutions to reduce the industry’s impact on the environment.

YABT, CBC, Postobónand PepsiCo have joined efforts so that Eco-Challenge 8.0 supports business projects that ensure Environmental Sustainability (SDG 7). More specifically, teams should develop viable, scalable and ready-for-investment solutions to the following challenges:

Eco-Challenge Sustainable Agriculture (fruits or vegetables & fruits):

A. The sustainable reuse of agricultural bio-products (banana peels, orange peels, potato skins, coconut shells, etc.)

B. Innovative strategies for the adaptation of agriculture to climate change.

 

Eco-Challenge PET and BOPP Recycling and Collection:

A. Feasible solutions for reuse and/or recollection of PET material

B. Feasible solutions for reuse and/or recollection of BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) material.

 

Eco-Challenge Access to Water:

A. Access to safe water (for example, rainwater collection & filtration)

B. Innovative solutions for the conservation of water and its efficient use in agriculture

Background

In its previous edition, TIC Americas has grown to include over 4,000 young entrepreneurs from 39 countries and has further integrated participants from Latin America and the Caribbean through the Caribbean Innovation Competition (CIC). Over the past 10 years, more than 35, 400 young entrepreneurs from 48 countries have participated in this competition.

Eco-Challenge

In 2009, PepsiCo and YABT partnered to create the Eco-Challenge, a category of awards within TIC Americas, focused on innovative projects that offer creative solutions to environmental problems. In 2013, cbc and YABT partnered to create the regional Eco-Challenge aimed at promoting innovative solutions for environmental problems developed by Young Central Americans. In 2015, Postobón joined YABT, PepsiCo, and cbc in order to increase efforts in Colombia and create a Colombian national eco-challenge category. The category has grown progressively since its first edition, where 300 teams from across the region registered to participate. In 2016, 1,675 teams from 25 countries took the Eco-Challenge, demonstrating the growing involvement of youth in creating innovative solutions to environmental issues.
